staub comes back on wax for a third episode. following the no name policy from the parties which started 5 years ago in ://about blank, it is time again for unknown artist to shine. this new ep sees the shy producer appearing on 4 tracks of pristine techno. a1 is an atmospheric trip while a2 is more brutal, on the b side it is going weirder and darker. we think unknown artist tries to craft interesting techno cuts and that he loves variety. that it is the idea behind staub since its beginnings, it does not matter whether you are a newcomer or lady gaga, what matters is the quality of the music. this is what was again aimed with this third record.

every now and then a release comes along from out of nowhere with little fanfare, no social media or extensive pr campaign enabling those who discover it to simply focus on the music without bias or preconceived ideas which can so often cloud our judgement these days. the hypochondriac ep is one such release, bringing four diverse tracks which veer from the heavier percussive groove and goose-bump inducing rhodes of the title track through to the spaced-out, soul-drenched vocal workout existential. on movement and ghosted were treated to deep and tracky shuffled grooves and 90s inspired nyc deep house with a nod to dopewax and henry street. simply put, this is the kind of record that back in the day would be your secret weapon for many years with all four tracks working their magic in different sets in different situations and places. we hope you enjoy this little slice of house perfec-tion!

from the redwood forests of big sur and the industrial warehouses of downtown los angeles comes pfeiffer, a label dedicated to quality and a diverse musical output. pfeiffer follows in the footsteps of labels such as svek and kompakt, known for releasing a wide range of techno and house with a common thread of unique and unpredictable energy. looking to bring this type of eclectic curation into the modern era, pfeiffer draws inspiration from the raw simplicity and effortless magnetism of its namesake location on the central coast of california. february 9th marks the release of pfeiffers first musical offering. a-side big tent sets the tone with raw, minimal percussion and acid tinged melodies. b-side twist brings a healthy dose of chicago and detroit influence to a track that feels colder than house, but warmer than techno. the first of many releases to come, pfe001 marks the tip of the iceberg for pfeiffer, a label which will continue to reveal itself over time.

cryovac recordings seeks out characters that give depth to the soundscape of detroit s underground. cryovac individuals believe in their path and stand for their art. ray7 is a multifaceted musical being surviving an ever evolving technosphere. he is an unknown hero that holds his own sonicly on any side of the planet. ray7 provides the power needed for the cryovac machine to hatch a new plot. cryovac exists due to the efforts of craftsmen and artists that work together to make something unique. side a starts with an ancient zulu chant that provides protection as well as a funky sort of techno break pop. the next track grinds in to a ruff and gritty narration of ghetto mind-set under the influence of classic electro. a constant roll moves the last track into addition and subtraction inside of a spartan groove that breaks and turns with strength. side b opens with a busy 4/4 be-bop lackadaisically drifting with dreamy synth over the chatter of voice, hi-hats, and reverb broken down by a 303 buzzing. track two is a dark and sloppy incomprehensible subliminal sing-a-long building and ebbing around a stark kick and clap.

presence unknown is a new vinyl and digital label curated by longtime producer and dj, neil keating aka controlled weirdness. neil has been behind the decks and deeply involved in all aspects of club and underground sound system culture since the early eighties. he has released his music on numerous underground labels and performed all over the world, from plush clubs to dirty warehouses. worth a read are a couple of published articles by neil regarding his experiences on the dance floor of underground clubs in london and new york in the eighties. see links at the bottom of this page for these as well as a detailed biography and discography. there is also a link to a recent 40-minute interview with distant planet tv that explores his cultured rave history. the second release on presence unknown contains four future-retro house grooves from controlled weirdness crafted using a variety of analogue and digital hardware in his south london studio.

limited 100 vinyl pressure on this one from an undisclosed european producer who has been responsible for more than a few choice cuts over his 25 years of releasing records. burning up lights the dance floor by squeezing every last drop of energy out of just a few key elements, a modulating pulsing cross-rhythm bass snakes around driving disco beats with choice vocal samples adding the final bit of ear candy. minimal, a bit twisted, but hooky as hell. on the flip we have becoming cyclonic, a far deeper excursion where 808 toms dance around a repeating fretless bass melody. an immersive and euphoric melding of drum machines, synths and 12bit jazz-fusion samples, all being put through the sonic mincer and coming out like the proverbial gourmet sausage. yum!

conceived along the space of a few years and part of a big collection of unfinished experiments stored on cassette tapes, this eight tracks selection well represents fred ventura s late 80s and early 90s infatuation with chicago house, detroit techno, early warp records and even a secret passion for ebm. using a basic set up made of roland juno 106, roland jx-8p, oberheim dx, roland tr909 and an akai sampler, these tracks were never officially mixed and meant to be released until today. minimal and hypnotic, dry and direct, both sides of the record show an instinctive approach to rhythms and basslines, typical of those days where computer didn t have a predominant role in the creative process.

amsterdams worst kept secret makes it back to unknown precept with his long-awaited album and first solo output since the acclaimed divine bovine tape mini-album. inspired by an evening spent in a restaurant next to a car demolition site, eindkrak s long player debut echoes the distant sound of steel being crushed and cars pressed into cubes. all this noise, in combination with the taste of good italian food, lead to the eleven tracks making up for the aptly titled brullend staal loosely translated to weeping steel. a leisurely stroll on crumpled metal sheets, the acidic hints of oxidized metal and the smell of gasoline. inaudible and distorted vocals as if smothered by the clatter and smokestacks of steel factories. eindkrak s first full-length is all about this disquietude made of melted and straightened scrap metal. a resounding and tumultuous din. try to eat some nice gnocchis while listening to this album, and you ll see what it is all about.

diese doppel-lp aus dem hause bbe ist in erster linie für djs und beataffine produzenten gedacht. doch auch freunde eigentümlich-spezieller und wundervoll-mysteriöser sounds dürften ihre freude an dem vinyl haben. der sampler wurde von den beiden versierten kompilationsspezialisten mr thing und chris read zusammengestellt. er enthält eine außergewöhnliche sammlung von 23 library-stücken, die aus dem gigantischen archiv von cavendish music stammen. das 1937 als boosey & hawkes recorded music library gegründete unternehmen ist marktführer für produktionsmusik in großbritannien und weltweit mit dependenzen vertreten. mr thing und chris read erhielten erstmals 2014 im rahmen eines sampleprojekts zugang zum cavendish-archiv. bei ihren grabungen entdeckten die beiden eine sammlung mit aufnahmen aus den 1970er-jahren, die bis heute nichts von ihrer frische und originalität verloren haben. die schönsten perlen daraus finden sich auf -the library archive- wieder. sie reichen von tagträumerischen scores im stile lalo schifrins bis zu atmosphärischen proto-hip-hop-instrumentals.
